Nebraska is the proud home of Offutt Air Force Base. The 55th Wing, the host Wing at Offutt, is the largest wing in Air Combat Command and the second largest in the Air Force.
The Airmen deploy on a moment’s notice all over the world. The 55th Wing is basically the first in and last out for any conflict. These defenders of our freedom are our neighbors, volunteers, coaches, and teachers in our community.
The 55th Wing operates on four continents and supports six diverse flying missions. They provide global reconnaissance, real-time intelligence gathering, command and control, information warfare, electronic attack, treaty verification and combat support to national leaders and agencies as well as Air Force and joint warfighters.
In addition, the 55th Wing provides support for 52 associate units at the base, including USSTRATCOM, the 557th Weather Wing, 595th Command and Control Group, and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency CONUS Annex.
Offutt is among Nebraska’s largest employers. Over 10,000 military and civilian personnel are assigned to Offutt, with an annual payroll of $895 million. In addition, 6,600 dependents accompany our military and an additional 26,000 military have retired here in the local area. They are a tremendous asset to our labor force. The economic impact of these 43,000 people is more than $2.6 billion.
Our military go about the business of protecting what we hold so dear…supporting them is just one way we can thank them and show them their service doesn’t go unnoticed.
